Convert MP3 to WAV
on iPhone, privately.

An MP3 plays anywhere but edits poorly: most audio software wants uncompressed PCM before it will cut, layer or process a track. Filemorph converts MP3 to WAV on your iPhone, with nothing sent to a server.

MP3 was built for small files and wide playback, not for editing. Audio editors, DAWs, samplers and many upload forms expect WAV, and some refuse compressed input outright. Converting first turns a track into plain PCM samples that any of those tools can open and process without a decoder step.

Filemorph decodes the MP3 with Apple's AVFoundation and writes a 16-bit WAV at the source sample rate and channel count. From that point the audio is lossless: the WAV holds exactly what the MP3 decoded to, and nothing further is lost when you edit and save it. The file grows a lot, since a 128 kbps MP3 becomes uncompressed audio at more than ten times the bitrate.

How to convert MP3 to WAV on iPhone

Pro
  1. Add your MP3 file. Open Filemorph and pick the MP3 from Files or the Share sheet.
  2. Choose WAV. Tap Transcode and set Output Format to WAV. M4A, MP3 and AIFF are the other options.
  3. Save or share. Tap Convert. The WAV saves locally, ready for an editor, a sampler or an upload form that only takes WAV.

In the app: Transcode (Output Format: WAV).

Why convert MP3 to WAV?

For editing and for compatibility. Cutting, looping and layering are cleaner on uncompressed audio, and each save of an MP3 inside an editor would otherwise re-encode it and lose a little more. WAV also settles the format question with hardware and software that never learned to read MP3, or that lists WAV as the only input.

Is it private?

Yes. Unlike web converters that upload your files to a server, Filemorph converts every file locally using Apple's frameworks. Nothing leaves your device, and it works with no internet connection. This operation is part of Filemorph Pro ($29.99/year, 7-day free trial on monthly and annual plans).

FAQ

MP3 → WAV — common questions.

Will the WAV sound better than the MP3? +

No. Decoding recreates the audio the MP3 already contains, so the WAV sounds identical to the MP3. What you gain is a format that editors and samplers handle natively, and that does not lose quality again when you save.

How much bigger is the WAV? +

A 128 kbps MP3 at 44.1 kHz stereo grows to roughly eleven times its size as a 16-bit WAV; a 320 kbps MP3 grows by about four and a half times. Plan on close to ten megabytes per minute for stereo.

Is MP3 to WAV conversion free? +

No, audio Transcode is part of Filemorph Pro ($29.99 a year, 7-day free trial on monthly and annual plans).
